I always wanted to be a writer. As a kid, I published a handwritten newsletter for my family. It covered such important topics as: what was for planned for dinner, how many doorknobs were in the house, and who had been spotted drinking milk from the container.
From this in-depth reporting came an appointment to News Editor of my high school newspaper. I went on to attend the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) and graduated with a degree in Literature/Writing. I took a year off from college to work at the County Adult Literacy Program as a VISTA volunteer, a program equivalent to a domestic Peace Corps.
From 2000 to 2005, I worked at Academic Press/Elsevier publishers. My most recent position was Publishing Editor. I acquired and signed scientific books in the following fields: Cancer Research, Toxicology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, and Cell Biology. To see a list of some of the books I worked on, click here. Other aspects of this position included traveling to scientific conferences, meeting with authors, preparing financial models, and issuing book contracts.
In 2005, I struck out on my own to become a freelance writer. When I'm not on deadline, I enjoy hiking, running, tennis and taking my dog for a walk.
